In a guest commentary in the independent Norwegian cultural and opinion magazine Subjekt, Anne Kalvig, member of Athena Forum’s expert network, critiques the inclusion of “gender identity” in European legislation following the Council of Europe’s resolution on conversion practices. She contends that treating gender identity as legal fact constitutes a category error with far-reaching consequences for constitutional governance, women’s rights, child protection and democratic accountability across Europe.
